French Louis XV Period, Walnut Commode Attributed to Jean-François Hache

+Click for full screen image+
Description:

An exceptional French Louis XV period, walnut commode en arbalète attributed to Jean-François Hache (1730-1796) of Grenoble.

Hache’s use of four arched legs that end with a pastille foot is a signature of his work. One can see the superior quality and color of the wood that came from the Dauphiné region. The drawers, which are separated by a crosspiece, have period bronze pulls and escutcheons.

Jean-François Hache was a member of a famous dynasty of 18th century cabinetmakers that included his grandfather, Thomas, and his father, Pierre. The Hache family played a major role in France for over a century. Today, the pieces of furniture they made are in high demand.
